Via Classica works with Australian schools seeking to establish, develop or strengthen classical education within their communities. Curriculum Development & Review
Via Classica works with schools to develop and refine coherent classical curricula that reflect the vision, ethos and particular needs of each school. We can support both schools beginning their classical education journey and those seeking to strengthen an existing programme.
Our work may include the development and review of scope and sequences, curriculum documentation, text and resource selection, and the mapping of classical programmes to Australian and state curriculum requirements. We can also assist schools in developing a coherent progression across year levels, ensuring that knowledge and skills are deliberately built over time.
Professional Development
Via Classica provides professional development for schools seeking to deepen their understanding and practice of classical education. Professional development can be delivered in person or online, for whole-school staff or particular year levels, and tailored to a school's stage of implementation, curriculum and priorities.
Our professional learning considers both the principles and practice of classical education: the purposes of education, the formation of intellectual and moral habits, teacher-directed instruction, the classical stages of learning, and the practical application of classical pedagogy within the classroom.
Professional development may be offered as individual sessions or as part of an ongoing programme, allowing teachers to develop their understanding and practice over time.
Ongoing Implementation & Staff Formation
Establishing classical education within a school is a gradual process. Via Classica can work alongside school leaders and teachers as new curricula and pedagogical practices are introduced, helping schools move from educational principles to consistent classroom practice.
Support can include the induction of new staff, ongoing staff formation, mentoring, lesson and resource development, and further professional learning. Particular attention can be given to developing teachers' knowledge of the literature, history, ideas and cultural inheritance that underpin a classical curriculum.
