Service Description

Course description This course delves into the Australian Progymnasmata (Narrative) book, immersing students in a collection of captivating Australian stories that build upon the skills acquired in the Australian Progymnasmata (Fables) course. In this course, students will read timeless tales, including myths, legends, fairy tales, and historical narratives, igniting their moral imagination. They will undertake a series of exercises to develop their writing skills, such as dictation and exploring the elements of plot, while also focusing on techniques for crafting meaningful dialogue and vivid descriptions. By the end of the course, students will have gained a solid foundation in narrative structure and techniques. Additionally, they will develop their oral presentation skills and deepen their appreciation for beautiful poetry through regular poetry recitation. Pre Requistics: Students must purchase the Australian Progymnasmata (Narrative) student text from Via Classica. They should also have an exercise book for additional notes. Students should have spelling capabilities at a grade level and be able to write sentences with basic sentence syntax. In class, students need to be able to follow teacher-led workbook completion and record answers during class. They need to be able to answer questions when called on in a group setting. At this age, students will need parental support in submitting assignments and keeping abreast of homework and due dates. This will be clearly conveyed to parents by the tutor. Students will need a headset microphone. They will use Microsoft Teams to conduct online classes and will need an email to engage with tutors. They will use Microsoft OneNote for course materials online. Course sessions: The course commences the week of 21 July 2025, with two one-hour sessions each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:00 PM (AEDT/AEST). There will be a term break from 29 September to 10 October 2025. Classes resume the week of 13 October 2025. The final week of classes will be the week of 8 December 2025.
